I was very disappointed to hear about the recent news on Arriva’s proposal to close their bus depots in Macclesfield and Winsford, withdrawing their services in the towns, as well as other surrounding communities. Initially, it was not clear whether D&G Bus would be providing any temporary replacement bus services for the routes in and around Macclesfield.
However, I welcome the positive news that D&G Bus will now be running additional services in the area from 23rd April to replace Arriva’s operation, including the following routes: Macclesfield to Weston, Macclesfield to Upton Priory, Macclesfield to Moss Rose and Macclesfield to Bollington. I also welcome that D&G have announced an extended timetable for their Crewe to Macclesfield route, which will now include evening journeys.
Local residents can find D&G’s newly published timetables here: https://www.dgbus.co.uk/closure-of-arriva-depots-in-cheshire.html
I have met with the Rt Hon Mark Harper MP, Transport Secretary, to discuss concerns about local bus services. In addition, I will seek to determine what “on-demand” bus service options may be available, as this innovative approach may be applicable going forward.
I will continue to keep in contact with Cheshire East Council and D&G Bus about their future plans and ask for their continued support in providing important bus services in our communities that are vital for many local residents.
