Macclesfield MP has visited Ivy Bank Primary School to learn more about the progress being made at the school and how well it is supporting children with special educational needs.
During his time at Ivy Bank, David spoke in the school assembly and also spent time touring the school. He was impressed by how hard the children were working, the positive atmosphere and the obvious dedication shown by the staff.
The school was recently rated as ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted, for its leadership and management and the behaviour of pupils. David listened as headteacher Quentin Thompson took time to explain what has been working well and areas the school are working to further improve.
Ivy Bank has the largest specially resourced provision for special educational needs in Cheshire East and was judged to be ‘outstanding’ in this area as well by Ofsted. The school supports children with a range of needs and has 20 places set aside for children with autism and complex learning difficulties. David spent time discussing the care and integration of children with complex learning disabilities at the school.
Mr Thompson said, “ David's visit had been arranged some time ago, but the timing of his visit coming after such a positive Ofsted report was a real bonus. The children and staff appreciated the time he spent with them and his positive endorsement of the great work done at Ivy Bank ”
David, who is looking forward to welcoming Ivy Bank’s year 6 to Parliament in January, said, “Ivy Bank can be proud of yet another good Ofsted report. It is clear that the governors, staff and pupils are making real progress and are working to ensure all pupils get the best possible education. I was especially impressed by the work the school is doing to support children with special educational needs. I look forward to continuing to support the school in the future.”
