The important service provided by the North West Air Ambulance has been recognised in Parliament recently, at an event attended by Macclesfield’s Member of Parliament, David Rutley.
As well as thanking volunteers and staff for their hard work and dedication supporting emergency service teams on the ground, David met with the Chief Executive of the North West Air Ambulance, Heather Arrowsmith, to hear about the organisation’s activities across the North West, and its planned future work.
The North West Air Ambulance’s helicopters fly 365 days a year, with the doctors and paramedics on board providing rapid treatment and hospital transfers to patients in Macclesfield and across the North West region each year. Since its launch in 1999, the charity has flown more than 17,000 missions across the area, with the ambulance called out an average of five times a day, rising to ten in summer.
The charity is entirely reliant on public and corporate donations to keep the North West’s Air Ambulance Charity helicopters operational and helping to save lives. More information on how to donate to the North West Air Ambulance Charity can be found on its website: www.nwaa.net
Speaking after the event, David said, “It was an honour to meet with the North West Air Ambulance team in Parliament, and to have the opportunity to thank them for their inspiring work. Their quick and professional response to call outs and their close co-operation with other emergency services has saved countless lives in the North West. I wish this vital service continued success, and look forward to supporting it further going forward.”
