David Rutley MP and Cllr Lesley Smetham have met with the Chairmen of the Parish Councils from Eaton, North Rode and Marton villages to listen to their views on the Local Plan and the Congleton Link Road.
David organised the meeting to gain a greater understanding of how local residents feel they will be impacted by the proposals. Cheshire East Council is inviting representations until 25th April, when the Plan will be submitted to the Secretary of State for Community and Local Government for approval. This means that it is more important than ever for local residents to make their views known.
Plans are progressing for the Congleton Link Road, which aims to improve traffic flows between the A534 Sandbach Road and A536 Macclesfield Road. There are four different proposed routes and it is important that local residents make their voices heard to Cheshire East Council.
The Parish Council Chairmen told David about their concerns that the proposed Link Road would have in terms of traffic in and around Eaton Village and on future plans for development. They asked David and Cllr Smetham to press for proper, fully funded measures to be put in place to mitigate the impact of significantly higher traffic volumes. David was also asked to urge the Council to ensure that green gaps are put in place to protect the identity of the villages, as development in Congleton moves forward and to protect the local countryside.
David said, “The Local Plan and Congleton Link Road will have an impact on Eaton and the villages nearby. I will make sure that the views of local residents will be heard. It is important to ensure that the impact of any future increases in traffic are addressed and, like local residents, I want to make certain that the identity of our local communities is protected. Local residents should also take the opportunity to contact Cheshire East Council to make sure that their views are made known to the Council.”
