David Rutley MP was delighted to welcome year 6 pupils from Ivy Bank Primary School in Macclesfield to the Houses of Parliament.
The students were taking part in the school’s annual trip to Parliament. Before meeting David they enjoyed a tour of both the House of Commons and House of Lords; learning more about the historic palace and some of the events that have shaped our nation, which have taken place there.
Following the tour, the students met with David. The Macclesfield MP told the pupils more about the work involved in his role as their Member of Parliament. David then spent time answering questions from the year 6 students.
After their visit to Parliament, the school group enjoyed a sightseeing trip around London.
David said, “It is always very rewarding to welcome local schools to the Houses of Parliament. I hope the students enjoyed finding out more about Parliament and how our democracy works. I look forward to welcoming more schools and colleges to Westminster in the year ahead.”
