Member of Parliament for Macclesfield, David Rutley, has given his support to plans for Poynton to be twinned with Haybes, a town in northern France.
During his meeting with the committee of the Poynton Twinning Association, David found out more about the proposal for a new twinning relationship to take place, in addition to the current arrangement with Erd in Hungary, which is in its thirteenth year.
David also heard about the recent visit of Committee members to Haybes, which they undertook at their own expense. Haybes is a town to just over 2,000 people, in the Ardennes region, on the French and Belgian border, approximately 150 miles to the east of Paris.
Poynton Twinning Association’s aims are to build and strengthen friendships between individuals, local groups and Councils; to promote the areas of culture, education, sports and tourism in both communities; and to respect each other's cultures and traditions. The Association is always looking for new members, and has regular events throughout the year, including a Bastille Day dinner at Il Borgo in Poynton on 14th July, and a hot pot supper and quiz at the Royal British Legion in Poynton on 23rd September.
Speaking following the meeting, David said, “It is great to see the Poynton Twinning Association continue to thrive in its work, and this new proposal to twin Poynton with Haybes is very exciting. I look forward to hearing about the further progress being made by the Association with this important project in the months ahead.”
