David Rutley, Member of Parliament for Macclesfield, joined local faiths groups at the annual Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast on 26th February, hosted by the Mayor of Macclesfield, Cllr Liz Durham.
The theme for the Breakfast was giving thanks and prayerfor all those who support the Christian and faith-related initiatives to help make more visible how the Churches are actively working together through Hope in North East Cheshire. These include Christmas Gift Wrapping and Easter Hot Cross Buns, The Cre8 Youth and Community Programme, Fair Trade, The Hope Centre, Just Drop-in, Justice and Peace, Reach Out and Recover (ROAR), The Silklife Foodbank, Street Angels Macclesfield, Treehouse and Winter Hope Accommodation in Macclesfield (WHAM).
David recently saw the work of Hope in North East Cheshire close up, when he participated in the WHAM project to assist homeless people on a Saturday evening shift, in Macclesfield town centre. The MP found out first hand about the great work which is going on to help those who are vulnerable in our community, many of whom have drug and alcohol dependency issues. He has been working closely in recent months with churches, community groups and Cheshire East Council, to help further improve the homelessness strategy which exists in the Macclesfield area.
Speaking following the Breakfast, David said, “I was pleased to have the opportunity to once again meet so many people at the Breakfast, who are taking forward such important initiatives to support our local community. It was good to catch up on the progress being made with various projects, and also have the chance to reflect and give thanks to those who are supporting our community. I would like to thank Cllr Liz Durham for hosting such a positive and engaging event.”
