As an advocate of local independent retailers, David Rutley has welcomed We Deliver Local to Macclesfield.
David was at The Corner Plot shop on Park Lane to show his support of the We Deliver Local initiative. The shop stocks fresh local fruit and vegetables, and is the vision of Anna and Robert Carey. Much of the produce grown at The Paddock Gardens, a local horticultural centre for people with learning disabilities. It is a social enterprise, run on a not for profit basis to support the local economy and community. The Corner Plot does not have its own delivery network, so it is working with We Deliver Local to deliver fruit and vegetable boxes in and around Macclesfield.
The Corner Plot is just one of the independent stores benefitting from We Deliver Local. The service brings together several local businesses and allows shoppers to order from all of them to be delivered in a single delivery. Macclesfield residents can now order from stores including: Cheshire Fish, The Cheshire Gap and Nigel Wilcox Family Butchers.
Anna Carey, one of the owners of The Corner Plot, said, “Our shop has been open for just over a year and has enabled people with learning difficulties to gain work experience. We have developed links with several local businesses such as Galore, Flour Water Salt and Food4Macc. We Deliver Local complements a successful network of local businesses working together.”
David commented, “We Deliver Local is a great initiative that brings together our local independent shops. It is good that the stores can now reach a greater number of customers and that shoppers have the option of having their favourite local shops deliver to their homes. I hope that the We Deliver Local scheme will help boost independent businesses in Macclesfield.”
He added, “One of my first jobs was working in a greengrocer’s shop after school and on Saturdays, so it is good to see traditional greengrocers like The Corner Plot doing well.”
