I would like to thank all those who supported my re-election to Parliament. It was a great honour to be elected in 2010, but it is an even greater honour following this election as I look forward to the important work ahead.
I will continue to work actively to strengthen the local economy. It is good to see unemployment fall by over 40 per cent in Macclesfield in the last year, but there is more to do to keep creating jobs, develop skills and ensure more opportunities for all.
I look forward to working with community groups, local traders, Cheshire East councillors and members of the new Macclesfield Town Council in the important task of revitalising Macclesfield town centre. There is also more to do in protecting our Green Belt, taking forward the planned Poynton Relief Road and rolling out superfast broadband to our rural communities.
In Parliament, I will continue to speak up for Macclesfield, and support the new Government in building on the positive economic progress in recent years and delivering the vision for the Northern Powerhouse. Other vital tasks include securing a fair settlement for all nations in the United Kingdom and letting the British people have their say on our relationship with the European Union.
I will carry on working for all local residents regardless of their political views and will continue to hold regular advice surgeries in and around Macclesfield. If you would like to attend a future surgery, then please get in touch at david.rutley.mp@ parliament.uk or by calling 0207 219 7106.
Once again, thank you to the many local residents who gave me their support on 7th May.
