Local MP, David Rutley, put his best foot forward recently as he visited Macclesfield Dance School, Sylk Dance Academy, with Cllr Adam Schofield, Deputy Mayor of Macclesfield.
Founded by local resident Amy Mayers in 2009, Sylk Dance Academy specialises in street dancing, including: hip-hop; house; locking; and breakdancing. Classes are also available in cheerleading and gymnastics, and the Academy works with over 15 local schools both in curriculum time and through its after school clubs.
David was shown around the impressive facilities available to students, who vary in age between pre-schoolers to adults, and who comprise a range of different skills and abilities. He also met with students and staff, and had the opportunity to view the artwork on display at the studio, produced especially for the Academy by Macclesfield College Art students.
Such is the popularity of the Academy that it has recently moved into new, larger premises on Union Street in Macclesfield town centre, to accommodate continued growth in its membership and demand for its services. Classes are also offered at Congleton Leisure Centre.
Speaking after his visit, David said, "Dance is a positive way to help both younger people and adults keep healthy, whilst building confidence at the same time. It was impressive to see the range of classes available at Sylk Dance Academy and to learn more about how Amy has built up this thriving local business. I wish her and the Academy continued success for the future."
