Macclesfield MP, David Rutley, has officially reopened the Macclesfield Parish Church Scouts and Guides Group headquarters on Station Street, following a major refurbishment.
David was joined at the reopening by Councillor Alift Harewood-Jones MBE, Mayor of Macclesfield. Together they learned more about the activities of local Scouts and Guides. David met with many of the young people at the event and saw first-hand a number of their favourite activities.
The renovations have made the building a much more inviting and safer meeting place for local young people, and have also considerably improved the headquarter’s energy efficiency. The work was funded by a combination of grants from Cheshire East Council, donations from The Rotary Club of Macclesfield Castle and fund raising by its members raising well over £20,000 for the work. The group also held several fund raising events, including bag packing at Tesco and Sainsburys.
Macclesfield Parish Scout and Guide group which has both Scouting and Guiding sections associated with it has over 120 members ranging in age from 5 to 18 years old.
After the opening, David said: “I am most grateful to all the volunteers and sponsors who have made it possible to refurbish this much-used and well-loved Scouts and Guides building. I wish everyone who uses it continued success in the years ahead. We are fortunate to have such active Scouts and Guides groups in and around Macclesfield.”
