David Rutley MP visited Fallibroome Academy on Monday to congratulate Katherine Monaghan on winning the 2014 Macclesfield Parliamentary Christmas Card Competition.
Katherine saw off some tough competition from her fellow sixth form students to be named the winner, with her memorable winter landscape of Macclesfield Forest. The painting is to be used as the cover for the Macclesfield MP’s Christmas card. 800 copies of the card will be printed and sent to constituents, civic leaders, and community groups in Macclesfield, as well as Members of Parliament and Government Ministers.
In addition to showcasing Katherine’s design, David’s card will display two highly commended entries from Hannah Brocklehurst and Kelly Gordon on the back. Both Hannah and Kelly are also sixth form students at Fallibroome Academy.
While presenting prizes at the school, David also took the opportunity to take a tour of the new Sixth Form Centre and find out about the latest developments at the Academy.
Speaking after the prize giving, David said. “It is great to see the artistic talent of young people in and around Macclesfield. This is the first year that sixth form students have participated in the Parliamentary Christmas Card Competition. I am pleased that Katherine’s painting will help highlight the talent of young artists over the Christmas season.”
