In response to local residents’ concerns about the proposed waste recycling centre at Withyfold Drive, Hurdsfield, I have issued the following statement:
“The proposed waste recycling centre on Withyfold Drive is completely unacceptable in this residential area. It would create clear road safety issues for local families living on Withyfold Drive and other adjoining streets, as well as causing noise and disruption. These roads are narrow and the residential streets were not designed for heavy goods vehicles, particularly with the planned number of journeys by skip lorries to and from the proposed site each day.
"I worked closely with Cllr Steve Carter in opposing the proposed development before his recent sad passing. Steve was campaigning for the appeal to be rejected at the hearing taking place on 24th January.
"At the recent packed meeting at the Adam Partridge Auctioneers on Withyfold Drive, along with local Councillor Sarah Bennett-Wake I heard many local residents set out their strong concerns about the proposed development. They highlighted their real worries about road safety, noise and air quality issues, disruption and wider impacts on the local community. I share their concerns and that's why I am continuing to strongly back the local campaign to oppose the development, and actively working with Councillor Bennett-Wake to call for the appeal to be rejected at the Planning Inspectorate's hearing on 24th January. This development must not be allowed to go ahead."
