David Rutley MP has welcomed AstraZeneca’s announcement that it will invest £120 million in its Macclesfield site.
The investment will secure 300 jobs at AstraZencea’s Macclesfield site. It is also estimated that over 200 temporary jobs will be created during the construction and commissioning phase, which will run from now until early 2017.
Construction of the new facility in Macclesfield is scheduled to start this month. The new facilities will be used to upgrade the production of Zolodex, an injectable treatment for patients with prostate cancer, and the company’s fifth biggest selling product.
David met with Tony Broughton, Site Manager, and Marc Jones, Regional Vice President, following this announcement, he said, “This is fantastic news for Macclesfield’s economy. Such a substantial investment demonstrates AstraZeneca’s commitment to Macclesfield and will help safeguard and create hundreds of jobs. I look forward to continuing to work with AstraZeneca, Cheshire East Council and the Rt Hon George Osborne MP to develop a vibrant, sustainable future for both the Macclesfield and Alderley Park sites.”
