The generosity of Macclesfield residents has helped to raise hundreds of pounds for the Buxton Mountain Rescue Service, and has been welcomed by local MP David Rutley.
At their stall in Market Place in Macclesfield town centre, the Buxton Mountain Rescue Team raised over £400. The money donated by local residents will be put towards supporting the Team’s mountain search and rescue efforts, as well as its work co-operating with local police, fire and ambulance services to respond to other incidents in semi-urban areas.
David, who is a keen walker and rock climber, has been a longstanding and active supporter of the work of the Buxton Mountain Rescue Team. He has previously joined volunteers to learn more about their work responding to reports of missing or injured people in the local area, and taken part in training exercises in Macclesfield Forest. David has also attended other fundraising events in Macclesfield in support of the 60-strong team – and their veteran search dog, Meg.
Fundraising is vital to the organisation’s work as it is staffed entirely by volunteers and completely self-funded. Donations can be made throughout the year via the Buxton Mountain Rescue Team’s website, www.buxtonmountainrescue.org.uk/support_us
Commenting, David said, “It is great that Macclesfield residents have once again given generously to this important cause. As I have seen for myself, the service that Buxton Mountain Rescue Team provides for walkers, climbers and others lost or in distress in the Peak District – and the wider area – is vital. The Team is staffed entirely by volunteers and so fundraising efforts are especially important. This year’s fundraiser will help ensure that the Team is able to carry on its work in the months ahead".
