David Rutley MP joined pupils, staff and governors as they welcomed in the start of the festive season with the opening of the Lostock Hall Primary School Christmas Fair.
Visitors were able to enjoy a cake sale, raffle, games and much more at the Fayre, which raised around £1,400 for the school. In previous years, the PTA has given this money to the school to help it buy new library books and improve security by installing a new fence and gates.
David also spent time with headteacher Graham Hamilton finding out more about the school’s role in the Silk Teaching School Alliance. The Alliance enables Lostock Hall to build on its success of working with other schools to drive forward school improvement by assisting with staff coaching, providing consultancy and working in partnership with colleagues.
The school has also taken on two student teachers this academic year. Working in partnership with the University of Manchester, the students will benefit from a year of on the job training, far more than student teachers usually receive.
Headteacher Graham Hamilton said, “As always, David got our school community off to a fantastic, festive start. His interest in and care for schools and the work they do was clear to everyone. It was also lovely to see him spending money and making the Chair of our PTA very happy in the process.”
David said, “It was great to help start the Christmas celebrations at Lostock Hall Primary School. The Fair was good fun and the money raised will help fund improvements at the school. I was also impressed by the school’s work with the Silk Training Alliance. It is great to see Lostock Hall playing a full part in the local community.”
