I would like to thank all those who supported my re-election to Parliament. It continues to be a great honour to serve the people of Macclesfield and to campaign for our local communities.
I will work as hard as ever on local issues that matter most to local people. It is good to see the Grosvenor Shopping Centre expanding with an £11 million investment - a real vote of confidence in the town. I am now pressing Cheshire East Council to significantly increase investment in the public realm, as part of improved plans to regenerate the town centre.
I will continue to actively campaign to create more jobs, support apprenticeships and bring more investment to the area to help more people achieve their aspirations. I will work with the Government to support AstraZeneca’s ambitions for its Macclesfield site, following a visit by Greg Clark, the Business Secretary, in early May at my invitation, and also to ensure that the Poynton Relief Road is delivered as planned.
Lessons will need to be learned from the national election campaign and I will continue to speak up for Macclesfield in Parliament on funding for local schools, to safeguard local health services and to seek a more joined up approach to health and social care. I will also go on campaigning to help improve the well-being and mental health of young people.
Since my election in 2010, I have worked hard for local residents regardless of their political views and I will continue to do so. I will also continue to hold regular advice surgeries in and around Macclesfield on a regular basis. If you would like to attend a future surgery, please get in touch at david.rutley.mp@parliament.uk or by calling 07850 005 282.
Once again, thank you to the many local residents who gave me their support on 8th June.
