A major upgrade to their Scout Hut was the answer when David Rutley MP joined supporters of the Scouts for their annual quiz in aid of local Scouts.
Over 100 parents, friends and members of the local community were scratching their heads in support of the 3rd Macclesfield Upton Priory Scouts. The annual quiz, held at Mottram Parish Hall, raised £750 towards an extension and major refurbish to the scout hut.
During the event David joined Mark Eden, District Commissioner, to present long service awards to the leaders of the group including Richard Hodges who runs the Cub section at the group.
Group Scout Leader Steve Richmond said, “It’s great to see so many people having fun together whilst raising money to support our group. Our group has grown significantly over recent years to over 130. We now need to refurbish our head quarters to provide modern facilities for the Scouts who use the hut five nights a week. Our fund raising target is circa £80,000 and, with the funds from the Quiz night, we are now in a position to move to planning permission for the extension”
David Rutley MP said, “It is fantastic to see so many people supporting our local Scouts Groups. Scouting provides a great opportunity for young people to get involved with the outdoors and serve our local community. I know the money raised tonight will be put to good use.”
