Co-founder of local performance storytelling group Silk Town Tales, David Whalley, met recently with Macclesfield’s MP, David Rutley, to update him on the group’s work.
Silk Town Tales was founded in 2017 to promote the rich tradition of performance storytelling in Macclesfield, by engaging the services of professional practitioners of this newly-reviving art form to perform at local venues. The group’s first event, ‘Barbequed Husbands’, which focussed on ancient myths and folk tales from the Brazilian rainforest, was a big success, and Silk Town Tales has gone from strength to strength since then.
The group’s next event, ‘Northern Grit’, will be held on Thursday 22nd February in the Cheshire Suite at Macclesfield Library. It will focus on harsh tales from and about the North of England, led by the renowned storyteller Christine McMahon. Tickets are available for £7, which includes light refreshments, and can be purchased from the Visitor Information Centre in Market Place, or online at www.ticketsource.co.uk/silk-town-tales
Speaking after his meeting, David said, “We are fortunate in Macclesfield to have so many interesting cultural activities, to which Silk Town Tales has been a very positive addition. It is great to hear that the group continues to go from strength to strength, helping to revive the important art form of storytelling and promoting Macclesfield’s rich cultural offer at the same time.”
