Local MP David Rutley paid a visit to Macclesfield College to help students gain a greater understanding of local and national politics.
The students, from the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma course in Public Services, have been learning all about parliament and the democratic process as part of their studies and were able to hear first-hand from Mr Rutley how government operates, how the electoral process works and the about the role of an MP. Mr Rutley shared with the students his knowledge and experience of representing the Macclesfield constituency and his role as a Parliamentary Private Secretary to a Government Minister.
The Public Services students also had the opportunity to ask questions about how political candidates are selected and the part MPs play in local and national issues - they are now looking forward to a field trip to the Houses of Parliament later in their course. Visits such as this from guest speakers provide a great way for students to enhance their learning and prepare for future careers.
