David is pleased that his campaign to improve school funding in Cheshire East has been listened to by the Prime Minister. He has welcomed the Conservative Party’s manifesto commitment to increase school funding by an additional £4 billion by 2022 and ensure that no school will have its budget cut in cash terms as a result of any new funding formula.
The Government is working to make school funding fairer and more transparent across England. David supports the approach in principle, but had been concerned that the proposed national funding formula that was out for public consultation earlier in the year could have had a negative impact on local school funding, if implemented.
As part of his campaign to improve the proposed funding settlement, David had numerous meetings with Justine Greening, Secretary of State for Education, and other Government ministers to clearly set out concerns of local parents and teachers.
Although the consultation closed on 22nd March, David continued to speak up for local schools and presented Fairer Funding For All Schools – Cheshire East’s well supported petition on the floor of the House of Commons at the end of April.
David says, “The manifesto sets out positive news for local schools. I am pleased that the Prime Minister has heard concerns about the proposed national funding formula. As a parent with three children attending schools in Macclesfield, I am strongly committed to supporting the important work of our local schools.”
