Regenerating Macclesfield town centre continues to be a top priority for David. That’s why he has worked closely with Cheshire East Council to ensure that the planned £20 million new multi-screen cinema and leisure-led scheme is delivered in 2018.
As part of his campaign, David is now pressing the Council to increase the planned funding for improvements to the public realm above the £1million currently planned for the town centre.
David is pleased to see that work is currently underway to expand the Grosvenor Shopping Centre into the former Cheshire Building Society site. The £11 million project will see new fashion retailers opening stores in the town.
Celebrating Macclesfield’s rich heritage also has a vital role to play in plans to regenerate the town centre. David has urged Cheshire East Council to carry out a review of the town’s heritage assets, which is now underway and will help establish a clear plan to attract grant funding and support for buildings that are iconic to Macclesfield.
David says, “The next two years are vital in bringing about a once in a generation improvement to Macclesfield town centre. I am committed to ensuring that Macclesfield becomes the distinctive destination that local residents deserve and one that will attract many more visitors.”
