Poynton Relief Road
Delivering the planned Poynton Relief Road is a clear priority for David and local Conservative Poynton councillors, as they work to tackle traffic congestion in the village.
Planning permission for the new £30 million Poynton Relief Road was granted by Cheshire East Council in January, an important step on the way to securing final approval for the scheme. The bypass was first proposed decades ago, but now construction could start as early as 2018. The road will run for almost 2 miles from Chester Road to London Road in Adlington.
David says, “I will continue to work with Cheshire East Council and the Department for Transport to ensure that the Relief Road is developed as planned. It will play a vital role in improving traffic flows in Poynton and connectivity with other communities in north-east Cheshire.”
Local Plan
David recently met Cllr Rachel Bailey, Leader of Cheshire East Council, in March with local Poynton councillors to raise concerns about plans for development in the village.
David supported residents’ concerns about the impact of plans to build 650 new homes in Poynton by the end of the Local Plan in 2030. Cheshire East Council wants to put 450 houses on three sites in the Green Belt, at Hazelbadge Road, Chester Road and Sprink Farm on Dickens Lane, despite strong opposition from local Conservative councillors and Poynton Town Council.
After the meeting, David said, “There needs to be a much greater focus on developing previously used “brownfield” land. I will continue to work to protect the Green Belt and urge Cheshire East Council to work with local residents to decide where any more homes are built in the village.”
