Local MP, David Rutley, was delighted to hear the news that £16.4m Growth Deal funding has been promised for the Poynton Relief Road.
David has been actively working with local Poynton Councillors, including Cllr Phil Hoyland, and Cheshire East Council to make the case for the relief road for several years. The campaign has strong support from local residents in Poynton, as the Relief Road would significantly reduce traffic congestion in the village.
Cheshire & Warrington Enterprise Partnership and Government Ministers pledged their support for Growth Deal Funding being directed to the 3 km Poynton Relief Road, when they could see that it would not only ease congestion, but also improve the transport infrastructure to benefit the area’s strong life science industry.
After hearing the announcement, local MP, David Rutley said, “This is great news for Poynton. The Relief Road is vital in tackling traffic congestion and helping to further improve the quality of life in the village. It will also be a positive step in improving transport links to Macclesfield.” He went on to say, “I am proud to have worked with local Poynton Councillors, Cheshire East Council and Government Ministers in seeking to secure this funding”.
