New Crisis Café Providing A Helping Hand

One month after the opening of Macclesfield’s new Crisis Café, local MP, David Rutley, visited to get an update on the work being done via this important community asset. David met with senior members of the East Cheshire Housing Consortium team, to discuss the support the Crisis Café can provide.

Crisis cafes provide a comfortable space, away from a clinical environment, for those in crisis and provide a safe haven to help prevent mental health challenges increasing. Those that have already visited the café in the last month have found support through skill building, mindfulness lessons, emotional encouragement, musical lessons, and social activities.

Mental health workers within the café are also on hand to give practical advice and signposting, helping individuals by ensuring they are referred to services to get the advice and support they need, when they need it.

The café is a result of a partnership between Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (our local mental health service provider) and Cheshire East Council and is provided by East Cheshire Housing Consortium.

The café is located within The Weston Hub, within The Weston Centre, Earlsway, Macclesfield, Cheshire, SK11 8RL, open seven days a week, from 10am till 10pm and can be accessed by referral from health and social care professionals, as well as through other voluntary organisations. More information on how to access the café, can be found via the following link https://www.cwp.nhs.uk/services-and-locations/services/the-weston-hub/ or by calling 01625 440700.

Speaking after his meeting, David said, “Macclesfield’s new Crisis Café is very important to tackle mental health concerns. The variety of services on offer will provide invaluable support for those who need it. We are very lucky to have such a well-trained team committed to ensuring they make a difference to individuals that walk through the door. I would urge anyone facing challenges to contact the café and access the facilities available.”
