Member of Parliament for Macclesfield, David Rutley, has asked Connecting Cheshire and BT for further support for rural communities which are yet to be advised when they will get access to superfast broadband, at a well-attended event about fibre broadband coverage on 6th November, at Alderley Park Conference Centre.
The event, titled, “Toward 100% Fibre Coverage”, looked at challenges facing rural communities which are not yet connected by Connecting Cheshire’s Superfast Extension Programme, which is aiming to provide more communities with Superfast Broadband. Connecting Cheshire organised the meeting and guest speakers included representatives from BT, Connecting Cheshire and Broadband Delivery UK, who explained progress being made to support these communities.
Speaking at the event, David said, “Clearer communication is required to explain where individual communities sit in the rollout scheme which extends to 2017 and beyond, and there needs to be a greater focus on enabling harder to reach areas to take forward community based solutions.”
He went on to say, “I am pleased that this event has taken place, and offers residents the opportunity to hear more about the work being done. It is important for them to be able to put their questions to key decision makers. This is a key issue for many communities right now. I shall continue to work with Connecting Cheshire, BT and local communities to help deliver these solutions.”
