Macclesfield MP, David Rutley, has reaffirmed his continued support for the Jewish community across the country, and his commitment to tackling anti-Semitism.
David met recently with Marc Levy, the North West Regional Manager for the Jewish Leadership Council, which brings together the major Jewish organisations of the UK to work for the good of the Jewish community. At the meeting, David and Marc discussed the very concerning trends in anti-Semitic incidents and behaviour, including in public life, and the importance of actively challenging this abhorrent prejudice, wherever it rears its head.
These vital issues were further highlighted in a recent debate in Parliament, led by the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Anti-Semitism. David was present for part of the debate, as strong, cross-party support was expressed for the need to actively root out anti-Semitism in political and public life, and in our communities. The debate also highlighted the positive and far-reaching contribution of the UK's Jewish community to our society.
Marc Levy said, “The JLC would like to thank David for his steadfast support to the Jewish community. During this difficult period, where record levels of anti-Semitism have been reported, the community takes great heart in the words and actions of MPs like David. Along with numerous colleagues from both sides of the House, David has continually enforced a zero tolerance attitude to anti-Semitism and all forms of prejudice. We look forward to continuing to work together with David and his staff in the months ahead.”
Speaking after his meeting, David said, "Anti-Semitism is completely unacceptable and should not be tolerated in our society. It was good to meet again with Marc and to have the opportunity to thank him for the vital work the Jewish Leadership Council does to promote understanding between communities and tackle all forms of prejudice. I will continue to work to support action to tackle anti-Semitism and promote freedom of religion and belief, both locally and in Parliament."
