Local Member of Parliament, David Rutley, needed the be quick on his feet, when he visited Macclesfield Activity Centre (MAC), to find out more about the work that the up and coming community initiative is doing.
As well as having the chance to put his best foot forward on roller skates, David discussed the recent progress that has been made at the Activity Centre and all the hard work that has made the centre possible, with the man behind the project, Andy Brooks, and local Cheshire East Councillor, Mick Warren.
The Macclesfield Activity Centre is a community interest company. This means that it is committed to improving recreational facilities for the people of Macclesfield and the wider community. It aims to keep its prices low and any profits made are re-invested to further improve the centre. The main activity is roller-skating and the centre also has a cafe and a community room, which is being actively used by all age groups. Andy is looking to provide additional facilities in the near future, including climbing facilities.
MAC received funding from Cheshire East Council, to assist with the start-up phase, but more funding is required in order to support the maintenance and further development of the project. Other local sponsors are providing assistance and the team is actively looking for more support to help realise their plans for the community.
After returning from roller skates to more conventional footwear, David said, “It was great fun to have the chance to skate at MAC, but more importantly, I was pleased to have the opportunity to discuss with Andy how this exciting community project can be taken forward. Andy and the team have made great progress over the past 18 months by bringing MAC to life, but he is clear that this project has further potential, if he can secure further funding and local interest. I wish Andy and the Centre every success with their plans for the future.”
