Local MP, David Rutley, gave his support to the fundraising activities of the Buxton Mountain Rescue Team in Macclesfield’s Market Place.
Along with many other residents, David was able to find out more about the important work of our local mountain rescue team. He also saw how the team use high-tech casualty bags and modern stretchers to get injured walkers and climbers off the hills to access the full medical services that they need. Thanks to the people of Macclesfield, the fundraising event raised £292.
The Buxton Mountain Rescue Team are all volunteers and has many members who live in the Macclesfield area. The team was formed in 1964 and has now been providing invaluable services to local residents and visitors for 50 years.
Earlier this year, David gave his support to a successful campaign which led to the renewal of Government support of £200,000 a year to assist rescue teams throughout the country with the cost of much needed equipment. He also helped successfully campaign to ensure that money raised from Libor fines relating to city institutions that would be used to support personnel and their dependents in the emergency services, could also be extended to mountain rescue teams.
Speaking about the event, Richard Doran, Chairman of the Mountain Rescue Team said, “It’s great to get the fantastic support from David and the residents of Macclesfield, to help us provide this much needed emergency service and to be able to assist walkers and climbers who have got into difficulties”.
After the fundraising event in Macclesfield, David said, “I am pleased to have been able to support the vital work of Mountain Rescue teams in Macclesfield and also in Parliament. The Buxton Mountain Rescue team is made up of volunteers who do important work to help people who get into difficulty in areas where the other emergency services can’t reach. It deserves our full support”.
