On a recent visit to Macclesfield Jobcentre Plus, local MP, David Rutley, learned how local jobseekers will shortly have access to enhanced services and more staff, following the consolidation of services from Wilmslow Jobcentre in October.
David met with the new District Manager for Cheshire Jobcentres, Catherine Hollingworth, as well as other team members based in Macclesfield, to find out more about the new services to be offered. He highlighted the importance of ensuring that these new services are made available to as many jobseekers as possible in the weeks ahead. David also praised the vital role played by Macclesfield Jobcentre’s work coaches, who support jobseekers to prepare themselves for the world of work, and provide guidance on career options.
The hard work of the staff at Macclesfield Jobcentre is helping more people into work, and contributing to reducing unemployment locally. The adult claimant count in Macclesfield is down by 47 per cent from May 2010. During the same period, the youth claimant count has reduced by 56 per cent.
Speaking after his visit, David said, “I am very grateful to Catherine and her team in Macclesfield for their active work to not only help more people get into the world of work, but also to help them to realise their wider career aspirations. It is good to hear that the enhanced services will assist in these vital tasks in the months ahead. I will continue to stay close to these important issues going forward.”
