Organisers of the much-valued Macclesfield-based charity, Space4Autism, were joined recently by local MP, David Rutley, for a visit to the charity’s new premises on Mill Lane.
Established by local parents in 2005, Space4Autism provides advice and support to children, teenagers and adults on the autistic spectrum, and their families, through parent support group meetings, workshops for professionals and carers, and clubs for young people. The charity was formerly based in Lowe Street, but increasing demand for its services has seen Space4Autism outgrow that space and prompted the move to Mill Lane, which took place last October.
Alongside Chief Executive Cheryl Simpson and her colleagues from the charity, David learned more about how the new premises will assist Space4Autism to provide yet more activities for the young people and adults with autism spectrum condition, and parents, carers and families, that it supports, and was impressed to see the transformation that has taken place to the Mill Lane site over the past several months. As the new premises take shape, staff are asking members what additional activities they would like to see. Space4Autism is also working to create a café with new kitchen facilities, a retail area, and a sensory room for both the young and older people it supports.
With larger premises and more activities, Space4Autism is looking for more volunteers to support its work. Anyone interested in getting involved with the charity’s important work, or who wish to make donations, can email info.space@hotmail.com, or telephone 01625 617884.
Speaking after his visit, David said, “I am grateful to Cheryl and the team at Space4Autism for showing me around the new Mill Lane premises. It is impressive to see how the energy and commitment of all at the charity has helped to transform this space into a thriving support centre for local families affected by autism. The charity has exciting plans for the future and I look forward to staying close to its work in the months ahead.”
