Sutton General Stores & Post Office continues to be at the heart of village life in Sutton, as local MP, David Rutley, saw for himself when he joined owners, Alan and Lisa Bolshaw, for their first ever Makers, Movers & Shakers Market recently.
The Market was hosted by Sutton General Stores in its grounds and arranged by local event organisers and stylists, Wren & V. It aimed to showcase the range of locally-sourced and produced goods that are made by people in or around Sutton, some of which can be purchased at the General Store. The well attended event also further strengthened the strong and vibrant sense of community spirit in the village.
Many local residents visiting took the opportunity to browse and buy from the variety of stalls selling handmade local goods, crafts and gifts. Cream teas and a BBQ were also available.
The event builds on Mr and Mrs Bolshaw's commitment to keeping the store at the centre of village life in Sutton. Their dedicated hard work in this regard was recognised earlier this year in reaching the finals of the best Countryside Alliance 'Rural Oscars', in the best village shop/post office category. Nominations for next year's awards are open now and can be submitted at: www.countryside-alliance.org/our-work/campaigns/caawards
Speaking after his visit, David said, "Alan and Lisa have made great strides in promoting community spirit in Sutton, and this was clearly on show at the brilliant Makers Market. It was great to see so many residents attending to support local producers, and I am very grateful to Sutton General Store, as well as Wren and V, for all their hard work in organising this successful community celebration. I look forward to seeing more events promoting our rural communities in the future."
