David Rutley, Member of Parliament for Macclesfield, was delighted to be able to attend the preview night of a new exhibition about the ancient Egyptians, in central London, which features a number of exhibits on loan from West Park Museum, Macclesfield.
The three month long exhibition, “Beyond Beauty, Transforming the Body in Ancient Egypt”, looks to celebrate the Egyptians at their most spectacular and their most human, by bringing together a collection of painted coffins, funerary masks, portraits, mirrors, clothing and jewellery, at the stunning Two Temple Place venue, in the heart of the capital.
Amongst the objects on display from Macclesfield is a Mummy Case, which held the remains of a twelve year old girl and a collection of her belongings, including a make-up palette, combs, shoes, jewellery and her own diary.
This exhibition offers an opportunity for the Macclesfield based artefacts to be seen in a prime London location, to a wider audience. David was joined at the launch by the Sue Hughes, Director of Macclesfield Silk Museums, and Cheshire East Councillor Sam Gardner, to celebrate the showcasing of some of Macclesfield’s great Egyptian artefacts.
Speaking following the launch night, David said, “It is really good to see Macclesfield exhibits in a prime location such as this. I would like to thank all those in Macclesfield who have made this loan possible. I hope this helps demonstrate the rich variety of collections based in Macclesfield, and I would encourage more local residents to visit the wide range of interesting exhibits available in our local museums.”
