Audiences of proud parents, thankful teachers and delighted dignitaries joined in a memorable festival of musical talent as The Macclesfield Academy hosted a reborn Schools’ Music Festival on Wednesday and Thursday night last week. The Academy was pleased to welcome David Rutley MP and Councillor Wesley Fitzgerald, Mayor of Cheshire East along with audiences of several hundred as children from sixteen primary schools and four secondary schools performed an eclectic mix of musical pieces.
Academy Headteacher, Richard Hedge said, "When we opened the Academy back in 2011, one of our key principles was that we wanted to work in partnership with other schools across the town. The music festival this week has been the biggest and best example of that partnership we have yet seen: the delight on the faces of the performers and the pride on the faces of their parents will stay with us all for a long time. I am so grateful to Liz Wolski, local music teacher, Victoria Palethorpe, Conductor, Pam Childs of Gawsworth Primary School and Dave Rodgers here at the Academy who between them have inspired and masterminded such a fantastic town-wide event".
David Rutley, MP said: "It was good to see such great musical talent and real enthusiasm for music at the Macclesfield Music Festival. I would like to add my thanks to all those people who have made this tremendous event possible. I very much hope that there will be similar events in the future".
