David Rutley, MP for Macclesfield, visited Park Lane School in Macclesfield on 3rd March to learn more about how the school is helping its pupils achieve their full potential.
During the visit to the well-respected local Special School, David had a tour of the primary and Key Stage 3 classes, where he met staff and a group of pupils, aged 7-9 years, who were using switches and a touch screen computer to make choices and to demonstrate their understanding. One pupil was selecting shapes by name using the touch screen.
David and head teacher, Lorraine Warmer, also discussed the progression of the pupils through the school, and the opportunity that a number of pupils have had to undertake community based work experience placements over a number of months. The school currently works with a number of local employers and voluntary organisations that offer work experience to its pupils, but it would like to establish more of these opportunities so that the school can offer a wider range of work experience placements for its older pupils.
Park Lane School is an all-age Special School that caters for children and young people with severe learning difficulties. The School Staff and Governors are committed to providing high quality education and care to ensure our pupils are encouraged, supported and given every opportunity to achieve their full potential. This was endorsed by OFSTED who have consistently judged the school to be "outstanding".
Following the visit David said: “I would like to thank Ms Warmer and the staff at Park Lane School for the important work that they are doing. It is clear that the school makes an invaluable contribution to the personal development to each of its students. I hope that more local businesses and organisations will show their support to the school and its pupils by offering much needed placements for the young adults who currently attend Park Lane.”
