David Rutley, MP for Macclesfield, met with local historian Dorothy Bentley Smith on 24th March to find out more about Past Times of Macclesfield Volume IV, her latest book on Macclesfield’s rich heritage.
Dorothy is a celebrated historian who has lived in Macclesfield since 1977, and is well known for her Past Times of Macclesfield series of books, which look back on 1,000 years of local history. Past Times of Macclesfield Volume IV was recently published following the continued success of previous books in the series and is available online and from local outlets, including Macclesfield Visitors Centre in Market Place.
The Past Times series bring together columns that Dorothy wrote for the former local newspaper, Macclesfield Community News. Dorothy has also written other books on the town, including a biography of Charles Roe, the influential entrepreneur who brought the silk industry to Macclesfield.
Speaking after the meeting, David said, “Dorothy’s prolific work always provides fascinating insights on Macclesfield’s rich history. Her latest work continues to bring our town’s history to life and I hope that more local residents will be able to enjoy reading more about Macclesfield’s fascinating past.”
