Member of Parliament, David Rutley MP, once again joined the Hope Street Angels over the Christmas period as they were on hand to help on the streets of Macclesfield.
Hope Street Angels is a voluntary organisation that offers assistance to people in difficulty on their nights out in Macclesfield. David has been a keen supporter of the group since its launch in June 2012 and was able to see how the charity has continued to go from strength to strength.
David’s evening saw him join local volunteer, Rosie Turner, on a walk-about in Macclesfield town centre late at night. During his visit, the Macclesfield MP helped Street Angels in their work with people enjoying a night out in the town by offering directions to those who had lost their way, finding taxis and making sure party-goers were safe on their evening out. David also spoke to local businesses, doormen and the police to find out what more can be done to help residents and visitors have a safe, enjoyable evening in the town centre.
Hope Street Angels Macclesfield is a voluntary faith-based organisation launched by Hope in North East Cheshire. Bringing together 39 Churches in the area, the group currently has 22 volunteers. They operate on Saturday nights from 10.30pm to 3.00am, based at the United Reformed Church on Park Green. With the help of Cheshire East Council, local publicans and the Police, they look to help people, whoever they are and whatever their situation, by listening, caring, and offering practical help on the streets of Macclesfield late at night.
After his visit, David said, “Street Angels continue to provide important support and a valuable service to people in Macclesfield. It was great to see Street Angels in action once again, working to make our town centre a safer and more enjoyable place to be at weekends. The positive team spirit is terrific, and I look forward to continuing to give my support to their important work in the months ahead.”
Pip Mosscrop, the Co-ordinator of Hope in North East Cheshire and Street Angels Macclesfield, said, “We are delighted that David so generously gave up his time before Christmas to be with us on the streets of Macclesfield. We are very grateful for his continuing support.”
Street Angels are always looking to recruit new volunteers, from all backgrounds. If any local residents want to know more or would like to apply to be a volunteer, they should email the Street Angels’ coordinator, Pip Mosscrop, at streetangelsmacclesfield@gmail.com.
