At a specially-arranged meeting, local MP, David Rutley, met with representatives from Peaks & Plains Housing Trust, to discuss their work in and around Macclesfield, and the Trust’s increasing focus on helping to regenerate the town centre.
David was joined at the meeting by the Trust’s Chief Executive, Tim Pinder; the new Director of Customers, Jamie Hutchinson; and Assistant Director of Homes, Margaret Goddard. The Trust explained its vision for investing in the town centre and developing new homes at high-quality standards, helping to create a vibrant, lively neighbourhood aimed at young professionals.
Peaks & Plains is currently considering proposals for up to £40 million of investment in developing housing in the town centre over the coming five years, starting with the £10 million development of the derelict mill buildings on Park Green. This will provide housing for up to 100 new residents near to planned new restaurants and retail facilities, including in the leisure-led scheme for Churchill Way, helping to breathe new life into this part of the town.
As well as its investment in the town centre, Peaks & Plains provides housing for over 11,000 residents, in over 5,000 properties across Cheshire East and in parts of High Peak. The Trust also works with local charities such as Cre8 and Reach Out And Recover (ROAR), for example, by providing apprenticeship or work placements.
Speaking after his meeting, David said, “It was very positive to meet with Tim Pinder and his team at Peaks & Plains, and to learn more about the Trust’s plans for the Georgian Mill site and for the town centre more widely. As well as retail and leisure, housing will play an important role in helping to regenerate Macclesfield town centre, and I would also like to thank Peaks & Plains for its clear interest and investment in this area.”
