David Rutley MP has given his full support for Age UK Cheshire East’s new dementia day support service by declaring it officially open.
At the official opening held on Friday, guests at the newly refurbished centre on Henderson Street in Macclesfield were informed how the new service will operate and why such a service can be a lifeline for many older people and their carers.
Age UK Cheshire East looks forward to welcoming their first service users from Monday 12th September.
David Rutley MP said, “This new facility is vital for those living with dementia and their families in Macclesfield and the wider Cheshire East. I congratulate Age UK Cheshire East and its partners for all their hard work in making this possible. It will be a much valued service in the years ahead”
Open between 9.30am and 4.00pm, Monday to Friday (excluding bank holidays), three small groups will run each day, offering a wide range of activities combining mental, physical and social stimulation, including arts & craft, reminiscence, quizzes, baking falls prevention, music therapy, group interaction, word games and trips out.
Individuals who attend the Dementia Day Support Service will also receive refreshments and a hot lunch and transport can be arranged through the charity’s brand new minibus or with a volunteer driver.
Damon Taylor, Chief Executive said: “We are extremely proud to open the doors to our brand new service which will enable us to help a higher number of local older people living with dementia, and their carers.”
The charity has been able to refurbish a building in the heart of Macclesfield thanks to the generosity of a number of funders including the Garfield Weston Foundation, Robert McAlpine Foundation, the Clothworker’s Foundation, Cheshire East Council, the Francis Winham Foundation, Bernard Sunley Charitable Foundation, WG Edwards Charitable Foundation and The Beatrice Laing Foundation.
Further thanks go to the Baguley family who have generously contributed towards the new minibus which will transport service users to and from the centre. The family raise funds in loving memory of their mum Joan who used the charity’s Macclesfield day care service.
The service is suitable for anyone living with memory problems. Age UK Cheshire East does not offer assistance with personal care but can offer support to ensure that everyone who does attend has a thoroughly enjoyable experience.
