Make it Macclesfield, was originally set up following the establishment of a Macclesfield Economic Forum in 2010. The forum held a regular Breakfast Forum, open to all comers, with the intention of providing a platform for residents to participate in discussion of issues of relevance to the future of the town. This simple initiative pulled together like-minded individuals who wanted to do more than simply be informed; they wanted to make a difference and ‘Make it Macclesfield’ was born.
This summer the active and growing organisation took an important step when it became incorporated as a Community Interest Company (CIC). Its objective is “to carry on activities which benefit the community” and as a CIC it is now able to raise funds from charitable and other sources to pursue those community objectives.
Membership of Make it Macclesfield CIC is open to any individual who has an interest in the wellbeing of the town and businesses can also join as corporate members. The CIC got its membership drive off to a good start in the Town Hall last week when David Rutley MP and Councillors Damien Druce and Janet Jackson joined Make it Macclesfield Vice Chairman Mike Rance in signing up to support the organisation.
David Rutley MP said “Make it Macclesfield is already making a real difference to our town. If you join you’ll have the chance to have your say on what gets done. I would encourage everyone with an interest in Macclesfield to join this Community Interest Company to get involved and make a difference.”
Membership is free and application forms can be picked at the Visitor Information Centre in the Town Hall or at the next Make it Macclesfield Breakfast meeting which will be held at Macclesfield Rugby Club on at 8am Friday 24th January. Contact Craig Wallace (craig.wallace@cheshireeast.gov.uk) to book a place.
Further Breakfast meetings are scheduled at 8am on Friday 4th April, 11th July and 24th October all in the Assembly Room in Macclesfield Town Hall.
