Macclesfield MP David Rutley is adding his support to the The Old Sunday School Heritage Centre’s Window of Opportunity campaign.
In celebration of the 200th anniversary of the opening of the former Macclesfield Sunday School, which is now the Heritage Centre, an exciting art installation has been commissioned. Window of Opportunity has been designed by Rich Edwards of Collect Creative in association with Macclesfield based digital animation company ‘Matmi.’ The design focuses on the Heritage Centre’s Georgian windows, incorporating aspects of the buildings past, present and future.
Residents are being invited to sponsor a window pane on a digital image of the Heritage Centre. A photograph or image from the museum’s archive can also be uploaded to the window pane. People are being encouraged to register their personal stories and memories, creating a special link with the history of the building, the people of Macclesfield who have benefitted from it and future generations. Individual window pane sponsorship starts at £10.
Museum Director, Sue Hughes, commented, “This is a really innovative digital project that allows the public to interact with the Silk Heritage Trust by uploading images and recording their memories of Macclesfield and the Old Sunday School building in its bicentenary year. Each sponsor supports the future of the building by raising funds to restore and preserve the Georgian Sunday School windows.”
David said, “The Heritage Centre building has been at the heart of Macclesfield for 200 years. It has an important place in the town’s heritage and I am sure many residents will have stories to tell about this historic building. I am pleased to sponsor this important project and hope other residents and visitors will also take up the opportunity to sponsor their own Window of Opportunity.”
