The sun shone on Macclesfield Community Garden Centre as members and visitors celebrated an exciting year at their 6th Annual General Meeting. 17 year old Oliver wowed us with his cakes and Matthew performed magic tricks to keep everyone entertained.
David Rutley, MP for Macclesfield, attended the event and was delighted to see the progress that has taken place since his last visit. David commented, “It was a pleasure to have the opportunity to attend the Macclesfield Community Garden Centre AGM, and get an update on their great work. It is an honour to be patron for this organisation, which does such important work in the local community and for people with learning disabilities. The group has demonstrated remarkable resolve in recent months, so I was pleased that the AGM was so optimistic in its outlook. I look forward to meeting up with the team again in the near future.”
Macclesfield Community Garden Centre is now in its 4th year as a membership organisation, meaning that all members have an opportunity to vote for who represents them on the board of directors.
Lucy Willder, Training and Volunteering Manager said, “Introducing membership has been a great opportunity for our trainees to learn about the democratic process, discussing it in advance so everyone is able to make an informed choice. This year it was great to apply this experience to the general election.”
Macclesfield Community Garden Centre is a work-focused day service for adults who have learning disabilities, based in West Park in Macclesfield.
