David Rutley MP, the new Patron of the Macclesfield Sheep Dog Trials Association, is giving his full support to this year’s Macclesfield Sheep Dog Trials which are taking place on 1st and 2nd August.
This is the first year of the Macclesfield MP’s term as Patron. He is proud to be supporting one of the area’s truly unique events, which has a long tradition dating back to 1945.
This year, the ever popular Sheepdog Trials is being hosted once again by Mr & Mrs Bud Eardley at Sutton Hall Farm. On the Saturday, there will also be a bustling craft fair and fell race. The Teggs Nose Fell Race runs through farmland not normally accessible by the public and is 7.3 miles long, with an ascent of 1700 feet. The main race starts at 2:30pm, with a junior fun run around the field to follow.
The Friday will see teams of six compete in a tug-of-war competition, while the Sunday will see an evening concert to round off the event. The concert will be headlined by husband and wife duo TABU, alongside comedians Dusty Young and Norman Prince. The theme is ‘Music and Laughter’ and tickets are £12.50 in advance.
As well as being a good day out, the events will all continue to raise money for a number of local worthy causes.
Ian Nixon, Chairman of the Macclesfield Sheep Dog Trials Association, said, “This year’s Macclesfield Sheep Dog Trials will be a great event for the local community and will, once again, help all those attend participate in a wonderful rural tradition. It will also help the Committee prepare for the English National Championships, which we are honoured to have take place here in 2015.”
David said, “I am honoured to have been asked to become Patron of the Macclesfield Sheep Dog Trials Association. The Sheepdog Trials are always an exciting occasion. There will be plenty to see and do. I would encourage as many local residents as possible to attend, and bring their families and friends to support this unique local event.”
