Businesses in and around Macclesfield have the chance to learn more about the benefits of exporting and the boost it can bring to their business, during Export Week from 7th – 11th April.
Research by UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) shows that exporters are more resilient and that their productivity increases by over a third in the first year of exporting. Exporters also benefit from spreading their risks across a number of different countries and economies. As export orders grow, so do profits; because orders from foreign countries tend to be larger than from domestic buyers and evidence shows that sales in the UK also tend to increase.
Many Macclesfield companies have already seen the benefits that exporting can bring to their businesses. Local small and medium sized enterprises, including Fibrevision, JTAPE and Campey Turfcare, have already strengthened their profits through exports.
Tidy Planet, a company specialising in food waste recycling and energy from food waste, based in Macclesfield, is exporting to countries as diverse as Azerbaijan, Israel, Canada and Greece. It is seeing export success with The Dragon, an integrated waste to energy solution designed to convert food waste and packaged food waste into green energy at their facility, which David Rutley MP formally unveiled in recent weeks.
The Dragon was developed following a request from BP to supply a system to process their food waste sustainably at remote exploration camps in the South Caucasus region. The Dragon integrates the Gobi – a food waste drying system and Biomass system – into a fully containerised and transportable package that can be taken direct to the customer. As well as having been exported across the world, UK companies are also taking up the system, with KFC in Trafford Park the latest to have The Dragon installed.
Other companies that would like to reap the benefits of exporting can find out more from UKTI by visiting www.exportweek.ukti.gov.uk UKTI is running a range of events to support businesses who are looking to take the first steps towards exporting.
David said, “It’s great to see Tidy Planet joining many other Macclesfield companies who are growing their businesses abroad. Exports can make a real difference to the success of a firm. Companies in Macclesfield and across Cheshire offer a range of products that compete successfully on the global stage. The North West has seen recent success in establishing stronger export links with China and we should look to build on this success in other international markets.”
