David Rutley MP has welcomed the Government’s announcement that schools in Macclesfield and across Cheshire East will receive £4.7 million extra funding in 2015/16 to address the unfairness in the way school funding has historically been allocated. This amounts to a £103 increase in funding per pupil.
This money is part of a proposed £350 million boost to the most underfunded local authorities. It represents an important step towards removing the unfairness in the school funding system across the country.
The extra money will be allocated in April 2015, for the 2015/16 financial year. The Government is delivering this significant boost by using money from the protected schools budget and also with additional money from the Treasury.
David said: “The school funding system inherited from previous Governments is unfair and overly complex. This new approach will help ensure that schools have more appropriate levels of funding available to educate their pupils. This announcement is great news for Macclesfield as it represents a huge step towards removing the unfairness in the school funding system.”
