David Rutley MP and local councillors are backing a campaign to improve mobile phone reception in and around Macclesfield, particularly in our rural communities.
The Countryside Alliance is asking people to become phone detectives and help map real phone reception rates across the UK. Local residents can download the free RootMetrics app onto their smartphone or tablet to track their reception at home and across the local area. The app tests the strength of their signal and automatically records the result. It can also be used to check which company provides the best service in an area. The information will be used to make the case to phone companies and the Government to improve mobile reception, especially in isolated rural areas.
David said, “Everyone pays the same for their phone package, but phone reception is very variable around Macclesfield and Cheshire. Many people are not getting a good deal. Phone companies need to take notice of this fact and ensure that no one is missed out from the mobile network. By using the RootMetrics app we can help provide the best possible information to phone companies and hopefully see a real improvement in services.”
