Macclesfield Bowling Club continues to go from strength to strength, as local MP, David Rutley, saw first-hand on a recent visit to the Club, now in its 90th year, for an intensive one-hour course in bowling on the Club’s green.
For the past several years, David has had the honour of opening the Club’s green by rolling the first bowl of the season. His recent visit was a great opportunity for David to find out more about the impressive skill, concentration and precision required to participate in crown green bowling. Club President, Sue Munslow, also updated David on the high-quality facilities that are available at the Club, many of which have seen recent improvements made thanks to donations from members.
As well as being a positive way to stay active outdoors, crown green bowling is a great way to make friends and be social. This is particularly the case at Macclesfield Bowling Club, which has almost one hundred active members – including someone who is in their nineties and still bowling! In addition to its regular competitions and matches against neighbouring bowling associations, the Club has a busy social calendar.
Any local residents interested in joining the Club can contact Club Secretary, Jan Gates, on 01625 829327. There are also details about the Club’s activities on the Macclesfield and District Bowling Association’s website: www.cgleague.co.uk/macc
Speaking after his visit, David said, “It was great to once again join Sue and her colleagues at Macclesfield Bowling Club, and I am very grateful to them for kindly taking the time to put me through my paces at bowling. The Club remains a great place for local residents to take part in fun, outdoor activities and make friends. I wish all at the Club well in its 90th anniversary year, and encourage other local residents to look into the benefits of bowling.”
