David Rutley MP joined the Hope Street Angels once again as they took to the streets of Macclesfield over the Christmas period.
Hope Street Angels is a voluntary organisation that cares for people in difficulty on their nights out in Macclesfield. David has supported Hope Street Angels since its launch in June 2012 and was keen to see how the charity continues to support local residents.
David’s evening saw him meeting with local volunteers, including Marion Porter, and going on a walk-about in Macclesfield town centre late at night with one of the Street Angels. During his visit, the Macclesfield MP helped Street Angels in their work with party-goers by giving directions, finding taxis and ensuring that those who they met felt safe. David also took the opportunity to talk to local businesses, doormen and police officers to find out more about the issues effecting them and the night time economy in Macclesfield.
Hope Street Angels Macclesfield is a voluntary Christian organisation launched by Hope in North East Cheshire, bringing together 39 Churches in the area. Their assistance can range from providing water, helping arrange a taxi, administering minor first aid and supporting those who need help, to providing flip-flops for those who have given up walking in their shoes! Supported by the Police, the Town Centre managers and the clubs and pubs themselves, Street Angels’ practical help sets out to make a tangible difference in the community and contribute to making Macclesfield town centre a safer place.
After his visit, David said, “Street Angels continue to make a real difference in Macclesfield. It is good to see Street Angels helping people to enjoy their evenings out in Macclesfield and working to make our town centre a safer place at weekends. The enthusiasm of the team is infectious, and I look forward to continuing to support Street Angels in 2014.”
Pip Mosscrop, the Co-ordinator of Hope in North East Cheshire and Street Angels Macclesfield, said, “We were delighted that David took the time and trouble in his busy schedule to visit us and to see for himself what it is like to be a Street Angel. We are very grateful for his continuing enthusiastic support."
