Macclesfield MP David Rutley had binoculars at the ready on Sunday, as he supported the “Macclesfield RSPB Wildlife and Outdoor World Extravaganza”. The “WOW” event was organised by the RSPB’s local group in Macclesfield.
Nearly 1000 people attended the event at Pikelow Farm in Marton, which aimed to educate people about the outdoors, and also show how the local countryside can be enjoyed by all. The family fun day included craft stalls, demonstrations and competitions, all with a wildlife or rural theme. Event organisers believe that the event raised over £5,500.
Macclesfield is fortunate to have one of the most active RSPB local groups in the entire country. Its successful Wildlife Explorers group, which is a wildlife club for children and teenagers between the ages of six and nineteen years of age, is also committed to celebrating and protecting local wildlife and our wonderful countryside.
Speaking at the event, David said, “I am delighted to have been able to come to Pikelow Farm today and support such a well organised and enjoyable event. Like many other visitors here, I was wowed by the number of people who have attended. This clearly demonstrates the strong commitment in the Macclesfield area to wildlife and the local countryside. It is also good to see so many young people getting involved and gaining an awareness of the environment, through groups such as the Wildlife Explorers”.
