Macclesfield

The Macclesfield constituency is comprised of the town of Macclesfield together with Bollington, Disley, Poynton, Prestbury and surrounding villages. Part of the Peak District National Park falls within the eastern side of the constituency.

At the height of the industrial revolution, Macclesfield was at the centre of Britain’s silk industry and this industrial heritage can still be found in the town today in its many Georgian houses and public buildings.

Today, Macclesfield continues to thrive as a town with a strong entrepreneurial tradition and vibrant community spirit. Life sciences play a central role in the local economy, with AstraZeneca having a major manufacturing and packaging site in the town. The area also has strong communication links, benefiting from fast rail services to Manchester and London, and easy access to Manchester Airport.

The constituency is situated in the north eastern part of the Cheshire East Council area.
